Welcome to The Stables Matakana, a dedicated events and functions venue in the heart of wine country, just 50 minutes north of Auckland. Our private space is available exclusively for weddings, celebrations, business events and photoshoots, offering total privacy and a setting full of character.

Alongside private hire, we also curate our own programme of ticketed entertainment events under the Stables Collective brand. Our boutique live music and entertainment series puts Matakana on the map, where DJs, acclaimed artists, and touring acts share the stage with homegrown talent. From late-night dancefloor sessions to soulful Sunday gigs, comedy nights to roots, blues and beyond, each event is curated for people who love music and connection.

Our Story

Back in 2015, Kim and Woody stepped in to reimagine The Stables and breathe new life into an iconic Matakana landmark. What began as one venue has since grown into two, with Smiths Matakana now established as the lively local for dining, drinks and weekly live music and entertainment.

Both venues sit under Creative Hospitality Group (CHG), supported by a dedicated marketing and events team based on site. It means every celebration, wedding, or show at The Stables is backed by the same experience, creativity, and attention to detail that has shaped nearly a decade of hospitality here in Matakana.
